2017 - Day 3 - shark teeth

My shark tooth collection so far. Hope to add to it tomorrow.

2017 - Day 3 - Change of plans for campsite

Change of course plans. Overshot my planned campsite. Will stay tonight on Sharks tooth Island in Currioman bay. I have permission to visit but not to stay for the night. I hope they will understand.

2017 - Day 3 - Fish

This is for Chris Duerksen...20". Fought like a champ.

2017 - Day 3 - Plan

Plans for Day 3: A short 9 mile paddle/pedal. Leaving time for a leisurely breakfast (coffee, pop tarts and a banana every day), more serious fishing, looking for sharks teeth, and collecting and documenting plastic pollution.

Looks like clear skies and light wind.

2017 - Day 2 - The Monroe Bay Campground:

The Monroe Bay Campground: I have a tendency to be judgmental. I've been aware of it for decades. But recently I have been working on it a lot. When I pedaled into Monroe Bay and saw the campground, judgy Tim was fully activated. I attach several photos here to give you a sense for what I saw. I almost posted them last night with snarky comments, but was aware that I was passing judgement before giving the place a chance.
The people at the check in were perfectly nice. The people in the trailers on either side of my tent were kind and helpful. I'm sure there are some bad apples in this "campground " but that is true of any community--and this place is a community.
Staying here was not what I had in my minds eye when I made the reservation but it was also not what I feared it would be when I first saw it. All part of the adventure. The folks here are just people like all of us.
I will go ahead and say I am not a fan of the confederate battle flags (I counted three) or the jet ski guys who ran their loud smelly toys until 8:00 though.

2017 - Day 2 - Summary

Conditions were fantastic this morning. Opposite from Day 1. Light wind, ebbing tide, cloud cover. I took advantage and put a lot of miles behind me, resisting the urge to fish whenever I saw something schooling bait it breaking the surface. Hard.

I was worried about making the 22.5 miles but made it fine and got here well before 4:00. "Here" by the way is Monroe Bay campground. Umm, I will write a separate post about it. Lots to say and show.

Caught my first striped bass on the way here! Not a big one, but the skunk is off.

Lots of shell fossils at some beaches.

Plastic.

After gathering plastic to bring to recycle at the campground, I saw that they do not recycle. This is all trash. Sad.

2017 - Day 2 - 301 bridge and first fish of the trip!

Late start again today.  Here I am nearing the 301 bridge.

And here's the first fish of the trip.  Sad...cofveve.
